Unlimited Web Hosting ....! Reality or Myth?

Unlimited Web Hosting ....! Reality or Myth?
Will you really get these offers?
  • unlimited storage space
  • unlimited data transfer
  • unlimited emails accounts
  • unlimited .......
Every day you meet with potential partners and clients, you will sure pass your name card to them. If they do not see your web site address on your name card, they will ask you whether you have a website.

After you have been asked many times, you may decide to get a web site up and run for your business.

The first thing you need to start professional web site is to find the reliable web hosting service. Everyone will be definitely looking for web hosting service which offer affordable rates (if not cheap) with reliable services and great support.

Fortunately, there are thousands of web hosting providers in the Internet; you can easily google and find numerous of them. Unfortunately, you will get confused which service provider you should choose or trust. Besides most of them have unbelievable offers - so many unlimited & FREE this and that. These offers are so good and you feel like not to miss the chance.

After reading these gimmicked advertisements, something suddenly come up on your mind - Are these UNLIMITED and FREE real?

I have seen many offers alike them and I have that question as well. After reading their terms carefully, testing for trials, searching feedbacks in forums, I got the answer. And I will share what I found out about unlimited offers, specifically for storage, data transfer and emails, in web hosting world.

Let’s start with "unlimited storage / HDD space" which you often see this type of offers. Is that really possible? First of all, today technology cannot support for unlimited storage, there is no physical device available yet for unlimited storage in the market. If you want to get a huge storage disk space (nearly unlimited), many hard disks and server computers need to be linked up together and I believe that you can imagine for the cost of that. Furthermore, this whole huge storage is just for you and so how much do you think you would need to pay for that. $10,000 per month or more, right?

But the pricing you see is very very cheap. So how can those providers offer such a good bargain? If you read carefully their terms and conditions, you will find limitations on usage of the storage like:
  • you cannot keep emails on the server
  • you cannot store the files which do not have links in the website
  • you cannot use the space for archive purpose
  • you can use it for fair usage only, etc.
Meaning there is always one way or another limitation because as I explained above, there is no unlimited technology yet. Many of these companies have thousands of accounts on the same server, sharing same resources: disk space, memory and processor. Their customers will get so-called unlimited storage with unlimited risk for their web site. You can refer to FAQs section at http://www.webwiseworkz.com/webhosting.html#frequentlyaskedquestions about the risk you are taking from sharing thousands of account is a same server.

Now, let's take a little deep look into unlimited data transfer. Mostly, data transfer (in speed) is measured in either bits per seconds (e.g. 1 Mbps, 2 Mbps, 10 Mbps) or total data usage per month (e.g. 1000 MB, 3 GB, 10 GB). Generally 1 Mbps approximately equal to 320 MB monthly data transfer. Many companies offer x amount of GB data transfer per month and some others offers 10 Mbps *shared band width. And again, more often you will see unlimited or un-metered data transfer. Can it be true? Again, today technology does not yet have unlimited speed (in other words many times faster than light speed), no device available yet. The simplify way of seeing data transfer is the water flowing from water pipe, it much depends on how big the water pipe is. You can find out more about this example in data transfer section and FAQs section at http://www.webwiseworkz.com/webhosting.html#frequentlyaskedquestions

Unlimited emails? More email accounts will take more storage space to record email account names, login names, passwords other information. Sending or receiving emails require data transfer and storage. If you want keep many emails in the mail server, you will require big storage space. If you get an offer "unlimited emails", you can keep all the emails in the mail server without needing to delete a single email and which will take huge / unlimited storage space. I have explained regarding storage space in above and I don't think it is necessary to repeat here. The same thing for the data transfer usage for sending and receiving emails. The catch is the storage and data transfer.
